Pri­vate in­ves­ti­ga­tor faces pros­e­cu­tion

A man in Zhao­qing has been pros­e­cuted for vi­o­lat­ing the pri­vacy and abus­ing the per­sonal in­for­ma­tion of his fa­ther-in-law. The man’s mother-in-law sus­pected that her hus­band was hav­ing an af­fair and wanted a di­vorce. She asked the man to in­ves­ti­gate. The man spent 80,000 yuan ($12,000) on gath­er­ing in­for­ma­tion and ev­i­dence on­line of the af­fair, which helped his mother-in-law get 1 mil­lion yuan and two apart­ments in the di­vorce set­tle­ment. The man is likely to face crim­i­nal charges.
