Deadly Dempsey does a Donovan

Clint Dempsey’s milestone goal sealed the United States’ 2-0 victory over Costa Rica on Saturday in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in Dallas, Texas.

In Wednesday’s final, the US will now face either defending champion Mexico or Jamaica -which was due to play the second semi in Pasadena, California on Sunday.

Tenacious Costa Rica stymied the five-time champion until Jozy Altidore broke through in the 72nd minute, capitalizing on a deft pass from Dempsey.

Ten minutes later, former Fulham and Tottenham striker Dempsey fired a perfectly struck freekick under the wall and into the net for his 57 th international goal, tying Landon Donovan’s mark as the country’s all-time top scorer.
