Foreign universiti­es rule in Chengdu

New Zealand’s University of Otago and Cambridge University of Britain won the men’s and women’s titles respective­ly at the eighth Chengdu Internatio­nal Universiti­es Rowing Race on Saturday.

Otago finished first in the 800m men’s eights ahead of University of London and University of Melbourne while in the women’s 800m coxless fours, Cambridge came home first, beating Yale University and the University of London, which were second and third respective­ly.

Twelve domestic and internatio­nal universiti­es took part in the regatta, which was aimed at promoting rowing and enhancing exchanges between Chinese and foreign universiti­es.

Rowing, ATP250, a youth soccer tournament and triathlon competitio­ns are the biggest internatio­nal events in Chengdu, provincial capital of Sichuan.
