Woman stopped for smug­gled lighter

A fe­male pas­sen­ger was blocked from board­ing a flight at Xuzhou Guanyin In­ter­na­tional Air­port on July 19 af­ter she at­tempted to smug­gle aboard a ci­garette lighter hid­den in her hair. She was caught at about 6 pm when an alarm sounded at a se­cu­rity check­point. The woman said she was ad­dicted to smok­ing Passers-by helped save two women who jumped into the Yangtze River in Nan­jing in an at­tempt to com­mit sui­cide on July 21. Chen, a di­vorcee, and her close friend, Yan, both in their 30s, went to the river­bank at about 7 am af­ter drink­ing at a nearby bar. The women were res­cued by passers-by shortly af­ter jump­ing, while po­lice who ar­rived at the scene con­vinced them not to try again.
