Helping hoop dreams become reality
For most kids, the NBA is an unattainable dreamland.
However, Master Kong, China’s leading instant food and beverage brand, hopes to help make those dreams become reality for some with the launch of its new charity program.
At a ceremony attended by Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors and Jamal Crawford of the Minnesota Timberwolves in Shanghai on Saturday, Master Kong announced it is teaming with the NBA to build six new basketball centers in China.
The partnership will also see brand new basketball equipment sent to 75 primary and middle schools across the country.
“Through this program, Master Kong will team with our social responsibility program, NBA Cares, to help thousands of students from 75 schools nationwide,” said David Shoemaker, CEO of NBA China.
“Along with receiving new basketball courts and sports equipment, the program encourages the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle, and lifelong values including teamwork, respect and leadership.”
Master Kong has worked on numerous other charity projects in the past, and this latest program highlights its passion for helping basketball-loving children.
“We want to help children and teenagers in underdeveloped areas to regain their love of basketball,” said James Wei, CEO of Master Kong.
“It’s the 25th anniversary of Master Kong this year. With China’s economic development, we are afforded lots of opportunities. We are grateful and we want to take more social responsibility to promote charity in our country.
“Children from remote areas will be inspired and they will have fun.”
Shoemaker added: “Today’s announcement continues Master Kong’s ongoing commitment to youth and social responsibility.
“I want to thank the entire Master Kong team for their tremendous support in helping us grow the game of basketball, and providing students with the opportunity to dream.”
