More than 5.6 metric tons of ancient coins were unearthed at a constructi­on site in Fuliang county on Oct 23. Archaeolog­ists said the 300,000 ancient coins are from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and have been under the ground for more than 800 years. Why such a large number of coins was buried under a 100square-meter residentia­l house is unclear, said Feng Ruqin, director of Fuliang Museum.

VISUAL CHINA GROUP Chongqing Zoo received a golden boa from a resident surnamed Zhao on Oct 24. Zhao gave his 4-meter-long pet to the zoo so it could have a comfortabl­e home. He had acquired the snake when it was small enough to fit in the palm of his hand, but now it is so large it needs two adults to carry it. Zoologists said the rare boa is originally from Myanmar, and an adult can grow to more than 7 meters.
