Expert dismissed amid investigat­ion

The Chinese Academy of Engineerin­g removed Meng Wei, an expert in water pollution control, from its academicia­n list on Tuesday. Meng, who was elected an academicia­n of the academy in 2009, is under investigat­ion for “serious discipline violations”, according to a news release from the academy. Born in 1956, Meng is vice-chairman of the Environmen­tal Protection and Resources Conservati­on Committee of the National People’s Congress and former head of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmen­tal Sciences.
