Ex­pert dis­missed amid in­ves­ti­ga­tion

The Chi­nese Academy of En­gi­neer­ing re­moved Meng Wei, an ex­pert in wa­ter pol­lu­tion con­trol, from its aca­demi­cian list on Tues­day. Meng, who was elected an aca­demi­cian of the academy in 2009, is un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion for “se­ri­ous dis­ci­pline vi­o­la­tions”, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease from the academy. Born in 1956, Meng is vice-chair­man of the En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion and Re­sources Con­ser­va­tion Com­mit­tee of the National Peo­ple’s Congress and for­mer head of the Chi­nese Re­search Academy of En­vi­ron­men­tal Sciences.
