Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has stressed the need to study and publicize the “Red Boat Spirit” to motivate the whole nation to make unremitting efforts to fulfill the tasks set by the 19th CPC National Congress.

Wang made the remarks at a symposium on the Red Boat Spirit, held in Jiaxing, East China’s Zhejiang province on Monday.

“The Red Boat Spirit, which highlights pioneering work, a striving spirit and dedication to the cause, is the spiritual impetus for the Party to strive for development and growth,” Wang said.

And it also serves as the spiritual support for the Party to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics, he said.

He called for educating people with the Red Boat Spirit and guiding their endeavors with it.

Prior to the meeting, attendees visited a replica of the boat on which the 13 CPC founders convened the first national congress of the Party in July 1921. The meeting, which marks the founding of the Party, was initially to be held in Shanghai, but to escape the Kuomintang that had been informed of the meeting, the attendees made the provisional decision to leave

Shanghai and continue the meeting on a boat in the Nanhu Lake in

Jiaxing. The vessel is now known as the Red

Boat.
