Mountain series hits Guangzhou

More than 1,000 athletes have so far registered for the grand final of the China Mountain Marathon Series to be held in the Conghua district of Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, on Dec 24.

Organized by the Chinese Mountaineering Association, Conghua District People’s Government and Guangzhou Municipal AllSports Federation, the event will feature a full marathon, a half marathon and a 12 km fun run.

The association kicked off the series last year in response to the increasing demand for marathon events. About 50 marathons were held in China 2014, with the number rising to 134 in 2015. Last year the total shot to 328, with around 2.8 million starters.

This year the number of marathons will pass 500.
