Myanmar exhibition provides chance to learn about Tibetan life

YANGON — A cultural exhibition that opened on Sunday in Yangon will provide opportunit­ies to enable Myanmar people to better understand Tibetan culture, according to China’s diplomat in the country.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang expressed his belief that the 2017 China Tibetan Culture Picture Exhibition will be a great opportunit­y for the Myanmar people to know more about tradition and culture of China’s Tibet, and it will strengthen the friendship between the two.

Present at the opening ceremony of the two-day exhibition were Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Chairman of Yangon Region Parliament U Tin Maung Htun and other officials as well as eminent monks.

U Sein Win Aung, chairman of the Myanmar-China Friendship Associatio­n (Central), said the exhibition aims to exchange culture, friendship and Buddhism between China’s Tibet and Myanmar.

It is the first time of visit to Myanmar for China’s Tibetan Culture Delegation and the exhibition highlights the bilateral exchange of Buddhism and culture between China and Myanmar, said Zhu Hongli, an official from China’s State Council Informatio­n Office.

The exhibition is part of the activities during a three-nation visit by a Chinese delegation, headed by Zhang Yun, director of China Tibetology Research Center’s history institute and consisting of scholars, living buddhas and government officials.

The tour, which started on Dec 11, covers Singapore, Sri Lanka and Myanmar.

The group’s three-day visit to Sri Lanka took place from Dec 14 to 16, and was attended by officials, dignitarie­s, teachers and students.

The photos portray the lives of Tibetan people, including culture, art, language, beauty and natural resources.
