120 families enjoy reading night in tents

Futian eyes global fintech hub

AS an essential part of Shenzhen Reading Month, a total of 120 young readers were selected from over 1,000 applying families to spend a night in tents reading books with their parents at the Second Primary School Affiliated to Shenzhen Futian Academy of Educationa­l Sciences on the night of Nov. 10 through 11.

The event was organized by the Publicity Department of the Futian District Committee of the CPC, Futian Public Culture and Sports

Futian has set its sight on becoming a financial technology center in five years, and plans to spend big on fintech applicatio­ns, a senior district government official said.

“We aspire to turn Futian district into a global fintech center within five years. We will contribute 10 million yuan ($1.5 million) each year in support of the applicatio­ns of fintech,” He Jie, vice-head of the Futian district government, told the 4th FinTech CEO Annual Summit and Investment Developmen­t Center, Futian Environmen­tal Protection and Water Supplies Bureau and Futian Education Bureau.

Apart from traditiona­l paper books, many reading pavilions were set up on the campus providing environmen­tally friendly reading materials, such as audiobooks and multimedia storytelli­ng.

For the reading night, tents, heat insulating pads, LED lights and floor lamps were distribute­d to the participat­ing Forum 2017 in Shenzhen on Nov 24.

The event brought together entreprene­urs to discuss the important role innovation plays in the finance and technology sectors. He said Futian’s district government had rolled out a specific policy in March this year to support the developmen­t of fintech.

“We will also provide 1,000 internship­s for fintech companies,” he said, without giving more details.

Apart from the policy, families. Unde the guidance of profession­a teachers, they set up thei tents by themselves and experience­d a beautifu night of reading and camp ing out with the family.

To strengthen thei environmen­tal protection awareness, each famil received a rubbish bag from the organizing commit tee and the young reader learned to classify rubbish The family that produced the least garbage was given a surprise gift by the orga nizing committee.

The reading night wa unveiled in a cultural show which started by playin the feature program o Shenzhen Reading Month produced by HKSTV, which reviewed the wonderfu journey that Shenzhen Reading Month has gon through.

At eight in the evening an outdoor movie screenin and book exchange even were held. All of the par ticipating families went t the sports field of the schoo to watch the classic movi “Lotus Lantern” where the enjoyed the blend of th music from the movie with the chirping of insects. the district government ha taken various measures t help the fintech industr prosper in Futian.

“Firstly, Futian intend to set up a venture capita fund worth 10 billion yuan Secondly, we have hired 30 local and foreign expert to form a special commit tee for a series of research topics.

“So far, the fintech eco system has been basicall set up in Futian. Next, w will create a green financ demonstrat­ion area,” H said.
