Entering the North American market will help drive GAC Motor, a major Chinese homegrown carmaker, to improve its research and development, product quality, brand influence and business management, according to the company’s president.

“Entering developed auto markets will also enable us to integrate resources in global markets and further share our thoughts for the good of the international auto industry and its consumers,” said Yu Jun, president of GAC Motor.

Yu made the remarks during the North American International Auto Show, which was held from Jan 14 to 28, at the Cobo Center in Detroit.

GAC Motor, headquartered in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, presented its elite vehicle lineup featuring its existing sedan, SUV, minivan and NEV at the NAIAS, one of the leading auto shows in the world.

“The presentation of our complete product lineup at the auto show will showcase our strength as an international automaker,” Yu said.

According to the business chief, the Chinese automaker will enter the North American market in 2019.

Participating for four years as the only Chinese automaker in the NAIAS gained widespread interest for GAC Motor and allowed it to become more familiar to local consumers as well as better understand their needs, according to Yu.

“As we are here to unveil new vehicles, our brand’s product lineup is more comprehensive than ever, paving the way for us to further explore global markets while demonstrating our advanced and upgraded capabilities in designing and manufacturing high-end vehicles,” he added.

Prior to entering the US market, GAC Motor has established its sales network in 14 countries and regions over the past few years.

“The US market has very strict standards, laws and regulations. So entering it is a challenge as well as a test for GAC Motor’s quality, technology and R&D capabilities,” Yu said.

As a highly-trusted Chinese homegrown brand, GAC Motor has been rated as the highest-ranking Chinese brand in J.D. Power Asia Pacific China Initial Quality Study, also known as IQS, for five consecutive years.

“As we execute on our strategy of becoming an automaker with global reach, we will continue to design products that will meet the different needs of customers worldwide,” the executive said.

GAC Motor, which was established in 2008, met its target of an annual sales volume of 500,000 in China in 2017, with a 37.2 percent year-on-year increase, blazing a path of high-quality and sustainable development.
