Business English competition aims to enhance the professionalism of region’s tertiary students in presenting business plans in English, Aska Cheong reports
Six student teams from Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai on Sunday will to be the champion at the Grand Finals of the Eighth APCEA Business Presentation Contest in Macao on March 18.
The event, organized by the Asia-Pacific Communication Exchange Association (APCEA) in collaboration with University of Macau Students’ Union, is an annual Business English competition that aims to enhance the professionalism of the region’s tertiary students in presenting business plans in English.
In the eighth year of the contest, the theme will be “Boa Vida Macao”, or “Macao’s Good Life”, and the teams will attempt to promote the image of Macao in a creative manner.
A day before the grand final, 10 teams from the Hong Kong and Macao division will compete for four places in the grand final. These four teams and the top two teams from the Zhuhai division will present their proposals during the grand final held at the University of Macau, at which three teams will be awarded prizes.
The business plans will be evaluated on the basis of creativity, practicality and feasibility, and each team of two to five members needs to present the project in English.
After presenting their business plans on stage before an audience, the teams face questions from a judging panel. Judges will make a final assessment and announce the results of the competition on March 18.
The competition usually starts in November and culminates in March, with a different theme each year normally centering on a hot topic for Macao.
In 2015, the theme was “Macao@15”, to honor the 15th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland. Similarly, when Macao was listed as “a city of gastronomy” by UNESCO last year, the competition theme was “A Bite of Macao”.
First prize in the past two years went to the team of the Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai Campus.
APCEA is a non-profit organization registered in Macao, which seeks to accelerate the development of communication in Asia Pacific and attract more academic activities to Macao. They initiated the business presentation contest in 2010.
This year’s event is supported by media including China Daily Hong Kong, TDMTeledifusao de Macau, Zhuhai TV and China News Agency Photo Network Centre.
