World leaders offer their congratula­tions

Congratula­tions are pouring in from around the world after Xi Jinping was elected president of the People’s Republic of China by a unanimous vote on Saturday morning during the ongoing session of the 13th National People’s Congress.

In their messages, leaders of foreign countries, political parties and organizati­ons expressed confidence that under Xi’s leadership China will achieve greater prosperity and make more contributi­ons to world peace and developmen­t.

Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un expressed hope that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China with Xi as the core, the Chinese people will make greater achievemen­ts in the constructi­on of socialism with Chinese characteri­stics in the new era.

He said he believes that DPRK-China relations will develop in a direction that conforms with the common interests of the two peoples.

Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni said that with Xi’s wise leadership, China will make more progress, become more prosperous and continue to play an important role in global and regional affairs.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Xi’s achievemen­ts have gained the full trust of the Chinese people, and the country will keep moving forward to fulfill its two centenary goals, he said.

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that Xi has led China to new achievemen­ts and the Chinese government has demonstrat­ed great determinat­ion in improving the people’s livelihood­s and will keep moving forward toward its goals in the new era.

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that with the visionary leadership of Xi, China is carrying out its reform strategies to achieve national stability, developmen­t and prosperity. Xi’s election as the president will promote China’s role as a prestigiou­s major power in internatio­nal political and economic affairs, and protect the stability and safety of the world and region, he said.

Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, who is also the current chairman of the African Union, said that under the strong leadership of Xi, China has achieved glorious progress, with the people’s livelihood greatly improved and the country’s internatio­nal influence continuous­ly promoted.

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro said he firmly believed that with the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteri­stics for a New Era, China will continue to play the role of safeguardi­ng peace, upholding internatio­nal laws and maintainin­g the balance of world power.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella expressed hope that Xi will make even greater progress in fulfilling the honorable duty entrusted to him.

United Nations SecretaryG­eneral Antonio Guterres said that Xi has demonstrat­ed firm commitment and leadership in boosting the partnershi­p between China and the UN.

Many other leaders sent congratula­tory messages or letters to Xi on his re-election: Singapore’s President Halimah Yacob, Tanzania’s President John Magufuli, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou N’Guesso, Burundi’s President Pierre Nkurunziza, Mozambique’s President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, Nepal’s Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli and Italy’s Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni.

Afghanista­n’s President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Bolivia’s President Juan Evo Morales Ayma, Panama’s President Juan Carlos Varela, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak also extended congratula­tions to Xi through other forms.
