Work underway on 56 major Futian projects

Head of Futian District Gao Shengyuan launched the constructi­on of 56 key projects at a ceremony on March 1.

The projects involve the renovation of shanty towns, urban upgrading, housing, public safety, ecological environmen­tal preservati­on, education and medical care, Gao said at the ceremony in Huafucun, Huafu subdistric­t.

The event was also attended by Yang Hong, a member of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Xiao Yafei, then Party chief of Futian district and now acting mayor of Dongguan.

The 56 projects mainly cover renovation of the eastern and western parts of the sprawling Huafucun housing estate, the second phase of urban upgrading projects in Xiameilin subdistric­t, the second phase of improvemen­t works in the building landscape in Futian Bonded Area, and the first phase of the overall improvemen­t of Futian’s transporta­tion system.

It also includes the constructi­on of Fujing Fire Station and affordable housing projects around the station, the constructi­on of the Futian Police compound, a waterloggi­ng control project at a Xiangmei Road neighborho­od, the expansion of the comprehens­ive teaching building at Meiyuan Elementary School, and the second phase of the constructi­on of the Second People’s Hospital of Futian district’s new inpatient building.

According to Gao, Futian has realized double-digit growth in its investment in fixed assets for four consecutiv­e years. This year, the district plans to invest 45.7 billion yuan ($7.2 billion) in fixed assets — a historic high and representi­ng a 22-percent year-on-year growth. He added that constructi­on of the 56 key projects will help enhance Futian’s status as a central district and improve the city’s environmen­t.
