Bullet train maker targets success in key test run for Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway

- By HAN JUNHONG

Chinese railroad rolling stock manufacturer CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles is fully prepared for a landmark test to be held next year, according to Wang Run, board member of the company.

CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles is a unit of CRRC, the world’s largest supplier of rail transit equipment.

It is the developer of the bullet trains to be used on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway — a route that will link the two host cities of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

The trains will be tested on the Beijing-Shenyang HighSpeed Railway in June next year.

Wang, a delegate to the first session of the 13th National People’s Congress, made his comments about the key test on the sidelines of the national assembly.

He said that he is fully confident about the performance of the trains to be tested.

That is because they are “smarter, more environmentally friendly and more passenger-friendly” than previous versions, he said.

According to Wang, the new trains feature autonomous driving and use environmentally friendly materials. The train can save more than 7.5 percent of the energy being used on existing high-speed trains in China.

“As the Beijing-Zhangjiakou line will be the most frequently used route during the 2022 Winter Games, we hope we can present an excellent image of Chinese-developed high-speed trains,” Wang said.

CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles, based in Changchun in Jilin province, is the developer and producer of the Fuxing bullet train, a fully domestically developed train that is capable of running at 400 kilometers per hour.

The train maker is actively pursuing an international expansion strategy by offering high-quality and tailor-made products to overseas clients, according to Wang.

He said his company is developing the 400-km-perhour train to have the capability of adapting to various track gauges.

“The performance means that our trains can travel across more countries,” he said.

Wang noted that a strong research and development capability is what CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles relies on in order to win competitive international tenders.

In addition to its headquarters in Changchun, the company has also established R&D centers in countries including the United States, Russia and Australia.

The centers were established to ensure better deployment of resources and the use of talent internationally, as well for more flexibility in local markets.
