A recent meeting between the Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security and the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing passed a traffic management regulation on deliverymen using ebikes in the courier and takeout delivery sectors.

According to the regulation, the authorities will enhance management on the courier and takeout delivery sectors to improve traffic safety. Serious traffic violations such as running the red light, blocking vehicle lanes and causing serious traffic accidents by deliverymen will be listed in their discredit record, and they will be banned from working in the courier and takeout delivery sectors if they are involved in serious incidents.

Deliverymen have been severely criticized by the public for breaking traffic rules and causing accidents, and many local authorities have taken measures to deal with such deliverymen. The Shenzhen traffic police department recently regulated that deliverymen will lose their jobs if they violate traffic rules three times.

National regulations are required to better mange the courier and takeout delivery sectors. And the new traffic regulation that deliverymen who repeatedly violate traffic rules will be banned from working in the sectors is a good start in that direction. The authorities also need to ask the enterprises to optimize the evaluation system of deliverymen by giving the latter enough time to deliver the products to consumers without breaking traffic rules.
