It ranked No 6 out of 21 cities in Guangdong by achieving 345 billion yuan ($54.8 billion) in GDP in 2017, according to official figures.

“We will give priority to excellent professionals and introduce a group of scientific leaders, young hightech talents, innovation teams and high-level talents who are greatly needed in our industries,” said Mayor Jiao Lansheng.

The government launched an incentive talent policy in March last year which provides a package of services, including housing, offices, subsidies and schooling for the children, to attract and secure new talents.

Excellent leaders and young elites in the fields of scientific innovation, corporation operation and management and finance can gain a one-off living allowance of up to 3 million yuan, according to the policy.
