US and its allies highhanded action in disregard of multinational system

-

THE UNITED STATES, the United Kingdom and France carried out military strikes against Syria without the authorization of the United Nations Security Council. Beijing Youth Daily commented on Monday:

The action of the US and its allies drives home the message that their advocating of a multilateral system is only lip service to disguise the law of the jungle that they truly act upon.

Even before the investigation into the suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria, which the three countries said they supported, the US and its allies have judged the Syrian government to be the culprit.

As the Syrian government seems so close to defeating the rebels, it is irrational for it to resort to chemical weapons, which it knows will definitely give the US an excuse to intervene in its civil war.

As a matter of fact, no evidence related to chemical weapons has been found in the ruins of a scientific institute that was attacked by missiles, which the US alleges was a major R&D center for

chemical weapons.

The US and its allies are antagonist toward Russia and Iran, which support the Syrian government, and they hate the multilateral system. Their efforts to contain Russia have been stepped up since the crisis in Ukraine broke out in 2013.

The Syrian civil war has evolved into a proxy war between the West and Russia over the past seven years, although they have common interests in the fight against the Islamic State group. Therefore, the war in Syria will not come to its end until relations between Russia and the West are reconciled.

The US and its allies should realize military attacks only make the situation more complicated, and they should come together with the international community to seek political solutions to the Syrian crisis.
