Drunken driver beats traffic cop

Chongqing Technology and Business Institute caught about 10 metric tons of fish from a lake on campus to cook a feast for students and school employees on June 25 and 26. A variety of dishes, such as whole fish braised in tomato sauce and fish fillets fried in hot chili oil, were offered for free at the dining hall in celebratio­n of students graduating this year. A teacher, surnamed Deng, said most of the fish were silver carp weighing 10 to 15 kilograms each. Included in the free meal was a bowl of fish soup and a serving of vegetables for each student.

SINA.COM.CN A man, surnamed Wu, who drove while drunk and attacked a police officer, has been sentenced to four months behind bars and fined 2,000 yuan ($305) in Huaian. Wu refused to cooperate with an inspection after he was stopped by traffic police on April 10 and fled in his threewheel vehicle. He then beat a traffic officer who found him hiding in a toilet in the rural area. Wu was found guilty in court of drunken driving, dangerous driving and obstructin­g public affairs.

PROCURATOR­ATE DAILY A 2-year-old boy who was lost overnight in Shenzhen with his mentally disabled uncle, Li Liqiu, was returned to his mother the next day after Li carried the sleeping child to a police station 20 kilometers away. The child’s mother, Li Lan, called police at 11 pm on June 30 after learning her son and brother had got lost after watching an evening light show in a square with her sister and parents-in-law. Li Liqiu, 41, and his nephew walked in the wrong direction after visiting a toilet and got lost in the crowd. They arrived at the police station on the afternoon of July 1. SOUTHERN METROPOLIS DAILY
