Soccer gambling fight continues

Since the World Cup tournament began, police in China have handled about 300 criminal cases involving soccer gambling and cracked down on about 100 gangs conducting gambling operations, the Ministry of Public Security said on Wednesday. The amount of money involved exceeds 1 billion yuan ($150 million), it said. Public security organs nationwide will continue the crackdown on gambling organizers and tackle the “protective umbrellas” that shield them, it added.
