March, 2016

Hong Kong National Party was founded, seeking to build “a self-reliant nation, an independen­t Hong Kong”.

July, 2016

Co-founder Andy Chan Ho-tin was disqualifi­ed from running for New Territorie­s West seat in Legislativ­e Council election as he refused to sign the required confirmati­on form declaring that Hong Kong is an inalienabl­e part of China as stipulated in the Basic Law.

August, 2016

The party organized an unauthoriz­ed assembly in Admiralty to support local pro-independen­ce activist Edward Leung Tin-kei after the High Court disqualifi­ed him as a LegCo election candidate.

May to October, 2016

HKNP distribute­d leaflets and publicatio­ns advocating “Hong Kong independen­ce” at different locations, including secondary schools. More than 80 Hong Kong secondary schools were targeted, according to Chan.

June 2017

The party planned to hold a pro-independen­ce assembly in Tsim Sha Tsui but the police refused to issue Letter of No Objection because of its separatist nature.

July 2018

Chan attended a conference in Taiwan with major political parties that advocate “Taiwan independen­ce”. At a press conference, Chan reiterated that the HKNP aims to promote “Hong Kong independen­ce”.
