March, 2016
Hong Kong National Party was founded, seeking to build “a self-reliant nation, an independent Hong Kong”.
July, 2016
Co-founder Andy Chan Ho-tin was disqualified from running for New Territories West seat in Legislative Council election as he refused to sign the required confirmation form declaring that Hong Kong is an inalienable part of China as stipulated in the Basic Law.
August, 2016
The party organized an unauthorized assembly in Admiralty to support local pro-independence activist Edward Leung Tin-kei after the High Court disqualified him as a LegCo election candidate.
May to October, 2016
HKNP distributed leaflets and publications advocating “Hong Kong independence” at different locations, including secondary schools. More than 80 Hong Kong secondary schools were targeted, according to Chan.
June 2017
The party planned to hold a pro-independence assembly in Tsim Sha Tsui but the police refused to issue Letter of No Objection because of its separatist nature.
July 2018
Chan attended a conference in Taiwan with major political parties that advocate “Taiwan independence”. At a press conference, Chan reiterated that the HKNP aims to promote “Hong Kong independence”.
