Banding channels resources fairly
Inappropriate distri- bution of teaching resources in the educa- tion system may be dis- ruptive for schools, teach- ers, parents and students. Banding gives clarity for the best fit. The confusion and uncertainty that can arise without clear banding will not serve the needs of society.
Each school finds its level within the banding system. The strategies to teach students with higher ability are different from those required to teach students of lesser ability. The skills that teachers need to master are different. Banding channels resources usefully to enhance the professional development of teachers, for value to students, enabling our teaching resources to be more focused and fully used.
Education is a work of heart. The school banding system motivates teachers to accommodate the unique character of each student, to tailor the knowledge and skills they need for a bet- ter future. When teachers nurture student potential, academic performance also improves. Banding is a positive influence on teaching as it motivates our teach- ers to work harder in order to accommodate every stu- dent’s uniqueness.
Competition and pressure for results within each band, enables schools to set clear directions for achievable goals. Our Lok Sin Tong Yu Kan Hing Secondary School develops STEM education (Science, Technology, Engi- neering and Mathematics) which attracts higher-abil- ity, science-oriented stu- dents.
That, in turn, boosts our competitive position within our band, raising the school’s profile. It works well for our teachers and students.
It’s like the chicken-egg relationship. The school has improved over the years, which creates a positive image, raising it’s reputation within the community and the local education field.
If parents and students do not have enough information on which schools provide the right resources for their children, they may choose the wrong schools. Too much diversity of students can make it difficult for the school to serve all students well.
