Timeline of favorable policies for HK residents

August 2018

The State Council announced that residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan can apply for residence permits on the Chinese mainland with effect from Sept 1, and Chinese nationals from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan will no longer need a work permit when taking up employment on the mainland.

July 2018

The China National Arts Fund said it will begin accepting applicatio­ns for grants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan arts practition­ers in the first half year of next year. May 2018

President Xi Jinping issued a directive to accelerate the SAR’s developmen­t as an internatio­nal center for innovation and technology. The Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance subsequent­ly announced that Hong Kong’s universiti­es and other scientific institutio­ns may apply directly to the central government for funding.

December 2017

Employees from Hong Kong and Macao will enjoy equal rights to Housing Provident Fund on the mainland, it was announced. An auto equipment to get Home Return Permits was set up by China National Travel Service (HK) Group.

October 2017

The Ministry of Finance set up a special scholarshi­p for Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese students who wish to enroll at mainland universiti­es.

April 2017

The Shenzhen Education Bureau announced that children of Hong Kong and Macao residents can apply for admission to Shenzhen’s public primary schools even if they do not have a mainland household registrati­on.
