Fraudster couple kept dad’s death secret

A married couple who concealed the death of an elderly parent for six years so they could continue to collect his pension payments have been charged with fraud in Changyi. Gao Binyi and his wife, Shao Fumei, began living with Shao’s father after he retired in 2003. He passed away in 2012, but the couple refused to hold a funeral ceremony to ensure his pension payments did not stop. Over six years, the couple defrauded the authorities of more than 150,000 yuan ($21,600), according to the indictment. They were detained after police received a tip-off this year.
