Bridge documentary premieres in SAR
Hong Kong people can now take an in-depth look at the newly opened Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge as a documentary on the world’s longest sea crossing tunnel-cum-bridge premiered in Hong Kong on Monday.
The 70-minute film — Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge — was co-produced by China Central Television, HZMB Authority, Guangdong Radio and Television and Zhuhai Television. It’s based on the two-episode television documentary that has been aired on CCTV, China Global Television Network and Discovery Channel since last year.
More than 100 people from various sectors in Hong Kong attended the gala premiere in the Festival Grand Cinema. They included government officials, professionals from Hong Kong’s movie industry, media representatives and residents.
The film started with the construction of the bridge’s most sophisticated and technologically challenging part — the island and tunnel section — demonstrating the hard work, innovation and intelligence of about 50,000 construction workers, from chief engineers and designers, to grassroots workers, during their 14 years of labor, including the initial design and actual construction.
Deputy Program Director of CCTV-10 Yan Dong, who’s the chief producer and director of the documentary, said he hoped people can learn the true story behind the massive project, including the unprecedented challenges and difficulties encountered.
Noting that the previous television documentary had attracted hundreds of millions of viewers both at home and abroad, he hoped the new film could reach a broader range of audiences, especially young people.
Yue Lie, executive producer of the film and deputy director of HZMB Authority, hoped that Hong Kong residents could watch the movie and visit the bridge to obtain a better understanding of the construction process, and have more confidence in the future development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The documentary will premiere in Macao on Tuesday and make its debut on the mainland next month.
Construction of the HZMB started on Dec 15, 2009. The bridge opened to traffic on Oct 24 this year.
Attracting more than 100,000 commuters daily on weekends, the bridge has shortened the drive time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai from about four hours to less than an hour.
