BBC National Orchestra of Wales to tour China

Classical music lovers will welcome a feast for their ears as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales will hold five concerts in four cities from Dec 15 to 21. Michael Garvey, director of the orchestra, said China is becoming a growing market for symphony music. The schedule: Dec 15 - 16 - National Center for the Performing Arts, Beijing. Dec 18 - Changsha Concert Hall, Changsha, Hunan province. Dec 19 - Qintai Concert Hall, Wuhan, Hubei province. Dec 21 - Shenzhen Concert Hall, Shenzhen (joint performanc­e with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra), Guangdong province.

Nobel laureate has close ties to Chinese culture

Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, author and professor, is one of the greatest living French writers. He was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature as an “author of poetic adventure and explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilizati­on”. His oeuvre covers an extensive body of novels, short stories and essays, exploring deep themes such as language, humanity, nature and travel. Le Clézio’s works have been translated into many languages and have been available in China since 1983. After his first visit to China in 1967, the French writer’s bond with Chinese cultural circles has continued. Last month, Le Clézio attended the 10th Fu Lei Translatio­n Prize as the guest of honor and offered his insights on Chinese literature.

Father punishes daughter for bullying others

A father made his daughter walk 8 kilometers in cold weather to school as punishment for being kicked off the school bus due to bullying another student. Matt Cox, from Ohio, the United States, shared a video to his social media account of him slowly driving behind his daughter – while delivering an explanatio­n of her punishment. “Let me make this clear, bullying is unacceptab­le, especially in my household.” he said.
