Workers get warm drinks from grateful students

Xiong Xuxi and five other students from Mudanjiang Medical University in Heilongjiang province have been offering free hot soya milk to city sanitation workers. Xiong said in an interview on Saturday she offered the service because of the freezing weather and the workers deserve a small token of public appreciation for their efforts. Their devotion to their work is outstanding, and their gratitude is heart-warming, she said.

Santa thanks US war veteran in shopping mall

A touching moment between Santa Claus and a World War II veteran is warming hearts across the United States just in time for the holidays. Gina Wilbur was doing her Christmas shopping at Concord Mall in Wilmington, Delaware, earlier this month. Before Santa passed by her, he approached 93-year-old veteran Bob Smiley and bowed a knee to honor him. “He stopped short, knelt down, and thanked him for his service. I heard Santa telling the gentleman that he knew others who had served. He shook his hand with genuine gratitude, thanking him for his service and returned to the children. Best moment of my day,” Wilbur wrote.

Mood depends on the food you eat, survey says

Diet and dietary practices affect mental health in young adults more than older adults, according to research from Binghamton University, New York. The study found that the mood of young adults (18-29) seems to be heavily influenced by food that increases the availability of neurotransmitter precursors and concentrations in the brain (such as meat). However, the mood of mature adults (older than 30 years) may be more reliant on food that increases the availability of antioxidants, such as fruit.
