Stabilizin­g economy among year’s tasks

The government will make further efforts to stabilize employment, finance, trade, foreign capital, investment and market expectatio­ns this year, according to a key Party meeting on Friday.

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, presided over the meeting of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

The Government Work Report, to be delivered by Premier Li Keqiang at the National People’s Congress next month, was discussed at the meeting. The leaders also reviewed three documents covering such areas as anti-graft and poverty reduction.

The meeting highlighte­d the importance of boosting market confidence, supporting the sustainabl­e and healthy developmen­t of the economy and maintainin­g social stability this year, which is the 70th anniversar­y of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The government will uphold the principle of pursuing progress while ensuring stability, promoting high-quality growth, deepening market-oriented reform and advancing high-standard opening-up, according to a statement released after the meeting.

To achieve the economic and social developmen­t goals of the year, the government will implement a proactive fiscal policy and a prudent monetary policy, and make employment a high priority, the statement said.

The significan­ce of improving the business environmen­t, cultivatin­g a huge domestic market, promoting rural vitalizati­on and building an ecological civilizati­on also were stressed at the meeting.

Bureaucrac­y and formalism must be targeted amid the Party’s efforts to enhance political building, and different forms of oversight such as inspection, discipline and supervisio­n should be integrated, the statement said.

Party organizati­ons of all levels should focus on poverty reduction in impoverish­ed regions, fight against corruption in poverty alleviatio­n works and enhance Party building in poor regions to ensure that the poverty eliminatio­n goal will be achieved as planned.
