FAW-VW aims to become leader in digitalization and electrification
Sino-German joint venture FAWVolkswagen has made great efforts to promote digitization and electrification, aimed at leading industrial innovation and transformation.
The carmaker hosted the FAWVolkswagen Summit of Electrification and Digitalization on Wednesday in Foshan, Guangdong province, which attracted experts from industry authorities and universities to discuss the future development of the automotive industry.
Facing opportunities and challenges, China’s automobile industry will achieve high-quality development in a more open market competition environment, the carmaker said at the summit.
“As a pioneering enterprise of passenger cars in China, FAW-Volkswagen is actively responding to the call of the country and the times, embracing the tide of industrial transformation with a positive attitude, pursuing challenges with innovation, and raising the transformation of electrification and digitalization to the strategic height of enterprise development,” said Liu Yigong, president of FAW-Volkswagen.
FAW-Volkswagen is following the trend of industrial transformation and upgrading, and is leveraging innovation as the driving force for development. To this end, it has been developing new energy vehicles since 2017.
The joint venture is currently using Volkswagen’s MEB and MLB evo electrification platforms in production, and is following the dualbrand electrification strategy of Volkswagen and Audi.
FAW-Volkswagen has partnered with information technology company Huawei and internet giant Alibaba, as well as battery supplier CATL for innovative technical solutions.
Liu said the joint venture will strengthen cooperation at home and abroad, and pool global resources to provide users with green travel beyond expectation and offer a valuable reference for the high-quality development of China’s automobile industry.

“Our vision is production without an environmental impact considering the whole lifecycle. Part of this strategy is not only carbon-neutral production, but also an intact ecosystem as well as satisfied employees and neighbors,” said Andreas Dick, technical vice-president of FAW-Volkswagen.
The carmaker has also made efforts to lead innovation and development with its digital strategy.
FAW-Volkswagen said digital transformation is reshaping and upgrading the car ecosystem from the inside out. Digital awareness is the prerequisite for transformation; digital technology is the vital force while digital determination is the key to successful transformation, the company said.
The personalized customer order system independently developed by FAW-Volkswagen connects production to the end user, eliminating intermediate processes and creating a customized exclusive experience for users.
FAW-Volkswagen’s first MEB production line in China, the Foshan MEB smart factory, is dedicated to craftsmanship, intelligent manufacturing and strict testing. Utilizing intelligence and digitalization, the factory has upgraded and innovated its production technology and craftsmanship to deliver high-quality products for customers.
The first pure electric mediumsized SUV produced by FAW-Volkswagen based on the MEB platform — the ID.4 CROZZ — can realize intelligent control, display and interaction of the whole vehicle, evolving the car into an intelligent partner capable of communication and with a smart cockpit.
In the future, FAW-Volkswagen will continue to launch new energy products, including A-class and B-class SUVs, and introduce more autonomous driving functions in line with user habits, creating a green and clean travel experience that integrates people and vehicles.
