Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday that reviewed three key regulations.

The regulations respectively cover the People’s Liberation Army’s political work, the Party’s united front work — uniting and motivating all forces and positive factors that are available — and protection of the rights of Party members.

Political work is the lifeline of the people’s army and can only be strengthened, rather than weakened, according to a release issued after the meeting.

Revising the regulation on the PLA’s political work is an important measure to thoroughly implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the visions outlined by the 19th CPC National Congress, the meeting decided.

The revision is of great significance to strengthening the Party’s leadership over the army’s political work, ensuring that the army will always be the people’s army under the Party’s absolute leadership, and building the PLA into a world-class army in an allaround way, according to the meeting.

The meeting stressed that it is key to engage in political work over the course of building up combat effectiveness and combat preparation, promote innovation in political work, continue strictly administering the Party and the army in an all-around way, and resolutely mitigate formalism and bureaucracy.

The meeting pointed out that revising the Party’s regulation on the united front work is an important measure to advance the reform of the Party and State institutions in the field of the united front, and is necessary for giving full play to the powerful role of the united front in the new era.

The meeting stressed that it is necessary to strengthen the Party’s centralized and unified leadership over the united front work, involve the entire Party in the united front work and make the work more scientific, standardized and institutionalized.

Party committees and groups at all levels should strengthen their planning for and implementation of the united front work of their own departments or in their regions, carry out the work effectively and advance the cause of the patriotic united front continuously, according to the meeting.

The meeting pointed out that revising the regulation on the protection of Party members’ rights is conducive to fully manifesting the strengths of the Party’s leadership system, giving full play to the roles of Party members, and uniting all Party members more closely around the CPC Central Committee in the fight for realizing the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The meeting stressed that Party members must exercise their rights on the premise of fulfilling their obligations, shouldering their responsibilities and abiding by discipline.

Party organizations at all levels should strengthen their roles in organizing and leading the implementation of the regulation, promote study and publicity and ensure that all protective measures are in place.

The meeting also stressed the need to guide Party members to resolutely fight against misbehavior and corruption.
