Companies overcome pandemic to expand business horizons overseas
Enterprises in Hunan province are moving quickly into the global market as the province located in Central China aims to develop a more open economy.
As an example, Hunan Construction Engineering Group reached an agreement with Ghana’s Ministry of Energy on power grid construction last month. The $88 million deal marks a typical case of Hunan enterprises developing in international markets, local officials said.
Hunan Construction Engineering Group entered the Ghanaian market in 2010 and had signed two projects before this year: a $120 million contract in 2012 and a $97 million deal in 2016.
In the past decade, the company has played its part in helping Ghanaian authorities with electricity supply, winning praise from the Ghanaian government and its people in the process, Hunan officials said.
The company has helped provide electricity to more than 100,000 households in nearly 700 villages in Ghana, the area of which covers about 46 percent of the total territory of the country.
Hunan-based train manufacturer CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive secured overseas orders and demonstrated a strong delivery capability in its quest to promote Chinese high-end equipment internationally. The manufacturer expanded its business despite the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On July 14, CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive’s first subway train, developed for the new airport in Istanbul, rolled off the production line. The company completed the project i n j ust six months.
On Oct 29, 26 light-rail trains developed for the city of Monterrey in Mexico also rolled off the production line at CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive’s factory.
The 26 light-rail trains are among the most cost-effective and competitive rail vehicles in the international market, and their smooth delivery despite the pandemic demonstrates CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive’s efficiency and integrity, a Monterrey city official said.
Zhuzhou in Hunan, where the train manufacturer is located, has
established a complete industrial chain for train manufacturing involving more than 400 companies in the fields of parts and components, supporting products, and supporting facilities and services.
Cross-border e-commerce has also become a new growth driver for Hunan’s foreign trade.
Anker Innovations, headquartered in Changsha, the province’s capital city, has grown into one of China’s largest overseas consumer electronics brands.
With multiple marketing channels including Amazon, eBay, Tmall and JD, Anker Innovations brought in 6.66 billion yuan ($1.01 billion) in revenue last year.
