Top-level design keeps digital economy on track

-

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has called for national security to be taken into account when promoting the sound development of the digital economy.

Xi made the remarks on Monday when presiding over a study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee has paid much attention to the development of the digital economy as it can facilitate the flow of resources for the manufacturing, consumption and logistics sectors and so improve the efficiency of economic activities.

With the implementation of the national cyber development strategy and the national big data strategy, China’s digital economy has witnessed relatively fast growth and development.

Further developing the digital economy will enable the country to grasp the opportunities in the new round of revolution in science and technology and industrial transformation. This will help foster the new dual-circulation development paradigm, and help promote ecological conservation and the low-carbon transition, all of which are important undertakings for the country,

To develop the digital economy, China needs to work hard on key and core technologies, achieve a high level of self-reliance and selfimprovement as soon as possible, and strive to build high-speed, ubiquitous, intelligent, and comprehensive digital information infrastructure, and integrate the digital economy with the real economy.

To manage risks and prevent the disorderly expansion of capital, it is necessary to introduce laws and rules to standardize behaviors and build a multi-tiered and three-dimensional supervision system to prevent monopolies forming and correct practices that may impede fair competition and harm people’s interests.

China should also participate in global cooperation on the digital economy and engage in the setting of the agenda for the digital economy by international organizations, so as to make the country’s voice heard.
