Chinese Stories project
Beijing Media Times Publishing joins 17 publishers to present Chinathemed books to foreign publishers in a project called Chinese Stories. Zhu Wenping, head of the publishing group, says the goals are to elevate the image of publishers from Beijing and to tell the world about a civilized and open country that is making constant progress. The project covers political, social and cultural titles, including and books by essayist Yu Qiuyu and novelist Jia Pingwa. The overall packaging and promoting of the books will give them a boost in multilingual markets. Mei Ru’ao was the Chinese judge at the Tokyo Trial after the end of World War II. In the 1980s, his son discoveredMei’s diary and his personal account of court records and his observations. Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press published the valuable history and PalgraveMacmillan will publish it in English. “I am not revanchist, but I believe forgetting about the past miseries will probably lead to future disasters,” says Mei.
