Marriage scam plagues husbands

Three people suspected of running a fraudulent scheme, which involved women marrying men to obtain wedding gifts before disappearing, were recently detained in Xingshan county. A task force was established when a villager sought police help after his wife, who he had spent a large sum of money on buying wedding gifts, disappeared this year. Several other villagers reported similar cases — all the wives involved came from Yunnan province and disappeared less than a month into their marriages.
