Convict escorted to see grandpa

A convict about start a fouryear prison sentence for assault was allowed to say goodbye to his dying grandfather. The convict, surnamed Zhang, 42, was being held at a detention house in Suichang awaiting transfer to prison in Quzhou when he received a letter on June 22 saying his 95-year-old grandfather was near death. The next day, after receiving approval from the authorities, police officers drove Zhang to his home in Suichang. The elderly man was weak but burst into tears when he recognized his grandson. Zhang was returned to the detention hours a few hours later.
