Dean resigns over firing of teacher

Chen Ling, former dean of Lanzhou Jiaotong University Bowen College, has resigned from her post, China Central Television reported on Monday. Chen Biao was named new dean of the college, according to the report. In August, Liu Lingli, 32, a teacher at the college, died of cancer. The college dismissed Liu after she was diagnosed with the disease and sought treatment during sick leaves, citing longtime absenteeism. Chen Ling signed the paper that led to the firing of Liu. Liu sued the college and a court ruled that the college should resume the labor contract with Liu and pay her salary during treatment.
