Peru’s avocado exports up 24.5 percent
Fresh avocados worth $386.6 million topped the list of non-traditional Peruvian agricultural exports in the first eight months, with a 24.5 percent increase year-on-year, Peru’s foreign trade bureau ComexPeru said. The rise in exports was linked to a higher demand for avocados around the world, which caused prices to rise from $1.55 a kg in January to $2.1 in August. The nation’s avocado exports received a major boost in May 2015, when they were granted access to the Chinese market.
