Museum Day

This week events have been held around the world to mark International Museum Day on May 18. When the event was inaugurated 40 years ago, says the International Council of Museums in Paris, the aim was to ”raise the awareness of the fact that museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples“.

Last year 35,000 museums in 145 countries hosted events for Museum Day, the council says.
