Top graft fugitive sentenced to jail

Yang Xiuzhu, one of China’s most-wanted graft fugitives, who had been on the run for 13 years, was sentenced to eight years in jail for corruption and taking bribes by a court in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Friday. The court also ordered the recovery of her illicit gains of nearly 26.4 million yuan ($4.01 million) and fined her 800,000 yuan. Yang, 70, was former deputy director of the constructi­on department of Zhejiang province when she fled to the US in 2003.
