Transportation power
(jiāotōng qiángguó)
The National Transportation Work Conference on Dec 25 set the goals and tasks for developing China’s transportation system over the next few years, with the aim of achieving the goal of making China a global transportation power.
The goal of making China a transportation power was first advanced in the report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. According to the Ministry of Transport, high quality transportation requires giving priority to quality and efficiency instead of its scale and pace of growth. In the next stage the country should optimize the distribution of resources, and expand the supply of quality transportation to achieve a dynamic balance between supply and demand in the transportation field.
Over the next three years, the country will focus on transportation for targeted poverty alleviation, improve its comprehensive transportation infrastructure, and promote green and safe transportation.
According to the plan, in the next three decades China will improve its transportation development level in an all-round way, in order to achieve transportation modernization. By 2020, all the national expressways in impoverished regions will be open to traffic. And it is expected that China will become a global transportation power by the middle of this century.
