China-made automated subway line sets off

The Yanfang Line, the first fully domestical­ly developed driverless subway line, began trial operations on Dec 30. The trains have reached GoA4 standard, meaning that they can achieve unattended operation, with starting and stopping, the operation of doors and the handling of emergencie­s being fully automated without the need for on-train staff. Located in Beijing’s southwest suburbs, the Yanfang Line has nine stations on its 14.4-kilometer main line. The line is expected to carry 70,000 passengers daily.
