Nearly 5,000 gang suspects busted

Close to 5,000 suspects were held or charged in a crackdown on gang crime in the first half of 2018. As of June 29, local police had busted 4,496 suspects involved in 498 mafia-style cases and other gang crimes, seizing 1.18 billion yuan ($178 million). While fighting organized crime, the province has stepped up its efforts to tackle the corruption that often shields such crimes.
