FDI in Latam falls for third year in a row

-

Despite stronger global growth, foreign direct investment in Latin America overall fell in 2017 for the third straight year, according to a United Nations agency. FDI in the region amounted to $161.673 billion in 2017, down 3.6 percent compared to the year before, and 20 percent compared to 2011, according to the latest report by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. The study “calls on governments to incentivize quality FDI that is compatible with sustainable develop- ment, above all to promote a change in countries’ productive structures” so they can meet United Nations development goals by 2030.
