Mudslide blocks regional highway

-

A section of the SichuanTibet Highway was blocked following a mudslide on Wednesday morning that was triggered by continuous rain, local rescue workers said. More than 20,000 cubic meters of debris slid down a mountain onto the highway, a pivotal route linking the Tibet autonomous region and neighboring Sichuan province. The slide covered a 200-meter section of the road and caused the collapse of another 60-meter section in Tibet’s Bomi county. No injuries were reported. More than 130 rescue workers and villagers worked to clear the road. The county government said traffic is expected to resume in two days.
