Xinjiang dolls show a mastery of design
Shan Xiumei’s handmade dolls, each with unique facial characteristics, are proving to be a hot buy in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. Shan, from Xinjiang, started making the dolls 18 years ago and uses special techniques for the embroidery and sculpture. Her dolls are entirely handcrafted rather than made from molds, and each has a different facial expression.
