1. The share of large and medium-sized industrial enterprises was calculated based on the data of “number of all industrial enterprises” and “number of large and medium-sized industrial enterprises”. The number of all industrial enterprises refers to the number of industrial enterprises at the township level and above.

2. The “number of industrial enterprises” from 1978 to 1987 was from the Department of Industrial and Transportation Statistics of NBS: China Statistical Yearbook of Industrial Economy 1988; data for other years is from China Statistical Yearbooks of Industrial Economy for corresponding years.
