YU FENG (1916-2007),

a noted artist and writer, studied Western painting at the Art School of Beiping University and the Art Department of Nanjing Central University. Involved actively in national salvation activities after Japan invaded China in the 1930s, she worked as a newspaper and magazine editor in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong, creating illustrations and cartoons, and even performed in dramas. In the 1950s she became secretary of the Chinese Artists Association’s Secretariat, in charge of exhibition work at the National Art Museum of China, while writing prose and art reviews.
