New WHO Head Elected

Tedros Adhanom, former Health Minister (2012-16) and Foreign Minister (2005-12) of Ethiopia, was elected new director general of the World Health Organizati­on (WHO) on May 23 at the 70th World Health Assembly in Geneva. To be the first African to head this internatio­nal organizati­on, he will succeed outgoing Margaret Chan, who has served as the WHO chief since January 1, 2007.
