Abstract: Objective To analyze the current research status, hotspots, and trends in the application of TCM theory of qi and blood in the treatment of heart failure; To provide reference for clinical practice and related research. Methods Research literature about the application of qi and blood theory in the treatment of heart failure was retrieved from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP), and China Academic Journals Database (Wanfang Data) from the establishment of the databases to August 2022. The CiteSpace 5.5. R2 software was used to construct a scientific knowledge map, and analyze information such as publication volume, authors, institutions, and keywords. Results A total of 1 528 articles were included. The annual publication volume showed a fluctuating upward trend. The institutions with the highest publication volume were Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Second Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. The most prolific authors were Zhang Yan, Yang Donghua, Wang Shuoren, Zhao Mingjing, and Wang Zhentao. The high-frequency keywords included “heart failure”, “qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome”, “tonifying qi and activating blood circulation method”, “cardiac function”, and “clinical efficacy”, forming 13 clusters. The emergence analysis identified 17 emergence terms, with pure TCM research dominating before 2011 and an increased focus on integrated
Chinese and Western medicine research after 2011. Conclusion The field of research in the application of TCM theory of qi and blood in the treatment of heart failure is continuously developing and has formed several stable research teams. However, large-scale and cross-regional academic collaborations have not yet been established. The current research hotspots are centered around integrated Chinese and Western medicine therapies, pharmacological mechanisms exploration, and clinical research.
